Preparing for the End of Life From an Orthodox Perspective

One of the most difficult conversations to have with a loved one is how to prepare for death. As we approach the end of our lives it is natural that doubt and fear enter into our minds. Do you know why we bury rather than cremate? Why do we have an open casket? Often when people are faced with mourning the loss of a loved one, they are also faced with the numerous responsibilities in preparing for the funeral. In this powerful presentation, Fr. Nicholas will share some practical steps that you can take today to help not only prepare for those difficult conversations, but also some tools you can utilize as you journey through that difficult season.

The Rev. Dr. Nicholas G. Louh was born in Jacksonville, Florida and currently serves as the Senior Pastor of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church and Vicar for the Eastern Florida Conference of the Holy Metropolis of Atlanta.

Upon graduating from the University of North Florida, Rev. Louh entered Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Seminary and graduated with a highest distinction Masters of Divinity (1999) and a Masters of Theology (2000). He then attended Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned a Doctorate of Ministry (2003) with an emphasis on Pastoral Counseling in the urban ministry.

In addition to duties as a parish priest Fr. Nick is an Adjunct Professor of World Religions at the Florida State College at Jacksonville and is the chaplain for the Jacksonville Sharks Arena Football Team. He is the co-host of a live call-in radio show with his wife, Dr. Roxanne Louh, called “Healthy Minds | Healthy Souls“ on Ancient Faith Radio on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 8pm.

Rev. Louh and his wife Dr. Roxanne Louh have two children, George and Gabriella.
